  • Attorney Joshua Balter’s Bio

Joshua Balter grew up in New York City and served in the US Navy for twenty years, mainly dividing his time between Submarines and the US Marines, and is a veteran of multiple combat tours. He has traveled the world extensively, including living in Japan for three years. His life experiences taught him a respect and understanding of people of various cultures. Mr. Balter was a medical specialist in the Navy and completed the most demanding enlisted medical program – Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman (similar to a physician assistant) with honors. He served as the sole health care provider on the USS San Juan (a nuclear powered submarine) and various other duty stations as a medical provider. He completed his career by serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader for three Navy Health Clinics in New Jersey and Philadelphia. He is the recipient of numerous military awards, decorations, and retired as a Chief Petty Officer.

Mr. Balter’s background growing up in New York City and Naval service developed a strong desire to help people and ensure they are treated fairly. The law is a natural continuation of his service to country as he will work tirelessly to ensure his clients are treated with respect and get what they deserve.

While it may seem like Mr. Balter’s natural life progression, post Navy, would be in the field of medicine his life plans were altered completely by his own divorce in 2004. Like many people going through the divorce process he felt confused, angry, and that the deck was stacked against him. It was at this point that he realized he could keep complaining or try to do something to make the whole process easier on people. With this in mind, he started law school while still on active duty and completed it as soon as he retired.

Joshua has extensive experience in both family and personal injury law. At his former firm he started and ran the family law practice; quickly gaining a reputation as a fierce advocate for his clients and getting top results for them. In the field of personal injury, he worked for both plaintiffs and defendants and developed a thorough understanding of how insurance firms think and work. In two years he tried and won more cases than most attorneys will try in a decade. He also appeared in front of the Connecticut Supreme Court winning his precedent setting case.

He received his Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management from Trident University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He started Law School while still on active duty and received his Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac University School of Law with a concentration in family law with honors. He is a Connecticut certified Guardian Ad Litem and has completed extensive training in mediation and collaborative divorce.
